Late Canon Rangefinder 7sZ LensesLeica Screw Mount Lenses aka LTM Leica Thread Mount aka M39
the largest system of Leica Screw Mount lenses other than Leica itself!
Wow! How would you like to have a Canon collection like this?
Smaller lenses in front, left to right: 100/2, 50/1.2, 85/1.8, 50/1.4, 100/3.5, 50/1.8, 135/3.5, 50/.95 on camera, 25/3.5, 19/3.5, 28/2.8, 135/2.5 reflex housing lens, 200/3.5 reflex housing lens on camera with Reflex Housing 2, 35/2, 35/1.5.
Larger Reflex Housing lenses in back row: 400/4.5, 600/5.6, 800/8, 1000/11.
Canon used TWO lens mounts for the later Canon 7 and 7s. The standard lens mount was the 39mm Leica Thread Mount, used for all shorter than 200mm lenses, except the 50/.95 and the 135/2.5. The 50/.95 used the OUTER bayonet mount, which was only mounted on the 7 and 7s. The 135/2.5 and longer focal length lenses used the breech mount of the Canon Reflex Housing 2. The lenses which stand up best today are probably the 50/1.4, 85/1.8, 100/3.5, 100/2, 135/3.5. While the 19/3.5 and 35/2 had outstanding reputations for their times, they have been surpassed by the modern multi-coated Cosina Voigtlander 15/4.5, 21/4, and 35/1.7.
The 50/.95 has a special lens mount which fits ONLY the Canon 7 and 7s. The .95's performance was amazing for its day, but the Leica 50/1 M Noctilux blows it away. Translation: don't waste your money having the .95 modified to Leica M mount. You will sometimes see a .95 TV lens (yes, for TV cameras). TV 50/.95's have NO RF coupling (unless a talented repairman added it after the lens left the factory). Strangely enough, at least one Russian Fed 2 was converted to take the Canon 50/.95!
These last Canon LTM lenses are considered among the best LTM lenses ever. IMHO the late screw mount Canons and the late black screw mount Nikkors are better as a group than the Leitz screw mount lenses of the same vintage. The 19/3.5, 35/2, 50/1.4, 85/1.8, 100/2 have outstanding reputations. All were discontinued by the late 1960's. Note this is not a complete list of Canon LTM lenses, just the late lenses for the 7s. Among the missing is the 85/1.5, which was already discontinued.
